Deep Purple and Jayler- Royal Arena, Copenhagen, DK Oct 25th, 2026

It has been a long time since I have been to an arena show. This is a new modern place and the layout and sound were great.  Not often I get to go to a rock show with my daughter as well. Met up with old friends Anders and Freddy (Fuzz Manta) before the show for some food and chat. Great to see them,, We got to our seats way in the back at the top (very top sections as closed off) but still must have been 10,000 people.  Jaylar (UK hard rock band) started right at 19. I had never heard them except one song we listened to on you tube.  They want to look like 70s Zeppelin and have a bit of that swagger. boogie and vocal style. Most of the songs were 4 min well crafted, tight 70s rock but with short solos.  Oh Woman and the very last song were the only ones that really stood out for me. In the last 10min song they jammed a bit and included 2mins of War Pigs by Sabbath. It was a great way for them to end the show. Solid 4 piece band but besides the last song, very tight, no risks taken, rock and roll…

Set List: Down Below, The Getaway, No Woman, Alectrona, Riverboat Queen, Need Your Love, Over the Mountain, The Rinsk (with a bit of War Pigs)

We had to wait 45mins for DP to hit the stage about 2030. Very cool stage and lights and huge high resolution screen behind the band. They had an intro film that showed animated images flying thru space with covers or hints of things from the artwork for a lot of the album covers and then the band starts the intro into Highway star and we are off. It was pretty dam LOUD, which I was happy for. Rock needs to be loud! Sadly, I think Gillan had his mic turned off so missed the opening first verse of the song and then came in.  I am sure he warms up his voice but he did not sound good. This song is just too hard for an 80 year old to sing now. But I have to say, by the 3rd song Into the Fire from IN Rock (2nd oldest song, in the set besides HUSH), he was sounding quite good. The band is in top form musically and Simon, is a monster shredder guitar player and a great heavy rock overall sound. Like Morse, he also throws in licks here and there and has fun with the solos but until the end of the show, all the songs were very tight and no extensions.  Lots of solos to give these 77-80 year old guys a bit of a breather. Simon did a guitar solo part after the 3rd song and 3 songs later Don Airy had one before Lazy and another later before Perfect Strangers. He also included the Danish National song! No drum or bass solo though. The new songs (Arrogant Kid, Diablo, ?) sounded good, nice to hear Lazy Sod from the last record. They did an instrumental from that album as well and Sometimes I Feel like Screaming (From 1996) , was the only song from the era 1996-2024. The audience reacted the most of course to the classic songs like Smoke on the Water, Space Truckin, Highway Star…. They have been closing and playing Black Night as the last song for many years.  I saw at some shows they have been doing When a Blind man Cries but not tonight. IT was great and fun to see them for a 4th time (1985, 1998, 2012, 2026)…  Go see them if you get a chance still heavy and rocking!
